Our Programs

Sie Romero leads in the coordination and management of the Los Angeles Youth Uprising Coalition, where UPI is a collaborating organization. She directs the implementation of the Leadership & Liberation Fellowship and other youth leadership opportunities in collaboration with the coalition. Sie supports the Coalition’s efforts to transform youth justice systems in Los Angeles through various strategies rooted in political education, policy, advocacy and narrative change. She graduated with honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz with two Bachelor degrees in Feminist Studies and Politics with a minor in Latine Studies. Prior to joining LAYUP, she organized in the youth justice field for over 6 years and worked with incarcerated, gang impacted, cross border and homeless youth as a resource coordinator and case manager in Ventura County and eventually as an educator in San Diego at the Monarch School. She is dedicated to contributing to the project of ending youth incarceration while building a robust youth development infrastructure in Los Angeles County and creating a future where everyone has access to opportunity, healing, and safety.
