A Los Angeles Violence Intervention Coalition Victory
Thank you Supervisors Hilda Solis, Janice Hahn, Holly J. Mitchell, and Kathryn Barger for successfully advocating to invest $11.3 million to #FundPeacemakers and community based organizations to reduce violence. The Los Angeles Violence Intervention Coalition was instrumental in securing this victory to create safety by sharing their stories and advocating for the needs of our communities.
Supervisor Solis and Hahn advocated to identify $5M in unobligated funding through the Office of Violence Prevention to support community based organizations that reduce violence in their respective districts. Similarly, Supervisor Mitchell and Barger advocated to invest $1 million for a Crisis Response and Violence Intervention Program, a pilot program in collaboration with the Department of Mental Health, Social Services, and Diversion and Reentry, and instructed the County to find an additional $5 million to further enhance the program. Supervisor Mitchell and Barger also advocated to find sustainable and continued investments for community based organizations to reduce violence in Black and Latino communities.
We applaud the Los Angeles County Supervisors for their new support of peacemakers and the Los Angeles Violence Intervention Coalition for their tireless advocacy to end gun violence. We hope to see greater investments through American Rescue Plan funds soon as we continue our call for $400M to #FundPeacemakers.
