We will address this statement to your local, state, and national elected officials to advocate for needed programs and policies. We will also use this to let you know about important actions you can take to make sure the people elected to represent you support efforts that will create lasting health and safety.
Here’s the pledge:
“I stand for building lasting peace and safety in the communities most impacted by violence and over-policing. This means funding and supporting community-based strategies that reduce violence while uplifting impacted communities, such as community violence intervention, unarmed crisis response, youth diversion and development, and restorative justice. This also means ending practices in our criminal legal system that harm and further marginalize violence-impacted Black and Brown communities, such as racial and gang profiling; sentencing enhancements; fines and fees; and incarceration for probation and parole violations that pose no threat to the safety of others.
As my elected official, I call on you to stand for both safety and justice by investing in community-based programs for health and safety and working to end harmful practices in the criminal and juvenile legal systems.”
