Ending Youth Incarceration in Los Angeles

In August 2019, Los Angeles took a monumental step toward ending youth incarceration. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a motion to explore moving youth supervision out of the Probation Department, and into another agency. UPI’s Senior Policy Associate, Nicole Brown, provided key testimony to the Supervisors as they considered this motion. UPI is now joining a new Youth Justice Workgroup to determine how a new agency can provide developmentally appropriate and care-focused services to give youth the support they need to rehabilitate and become successful adults.
