School Safety Collaboratives Launch
Urban Peace Institute's three School Safety Collaboratives are up and running in the Watts, Harvard Park, and South Park communities of South Los Angeles. Through the School Safety Collaboratives, we convene over 50 stakeholders, representing school leaders, violence intervention agencies, law enforcement officers, parents, students, and residents working to reduce violence and establish community safety.
The School Safety Collaboratives are an important opportunity for folks to discuss issues in the community and brainstorm solutions. A leading concern raised by community members is the rise in traffic violence–children and their families are being impacted by reckless driving making simple, daily occurrences like walking to school or the grocery store a life or death matter. Partners from the School Safety Collaboratives strategize on creating safe passages to help youth get to and from school safely.
