C.R.I.S.E.S. Act Grant Pilot Launches
Urban Peace Institute is excited to support the launch of the Community Response Initiative to Strengthen Emergency Systems (C.R.I.S.E.S.) Act Grant Pilot Program. The California Department of Social Services announced its first grantees earlier this month: four municipalities and partnering community-based organizations in California who will implement emergency response pilot programs as alternatives to law enforcement response. UPI celebrates this as a significant step forward in building out a comprehensive community safety infrastructure.
Over the last two years, UPI has convened a group of multi-sector stakeholders to develop the C.R.I.S.E.S. Act’s request for applications. Stakeholders, who include individuals with lived experience and professional expertise, dedicated extensive time developing equitable criteria for grantees. Notably, investing in the capacity of community-based organizations is the core of the criteria. UPI is proud to support innovative efforts to reduce violence and enhance safety!
UPI will continue supporting the pilot by providing tailored technical assistance to grantees. Our technical assistance approach is driven by the needs of local community members and practitioners. We are also eager to continue engaging stakeholders on the C.R.I.S.E.S. Act’s implementation and evaluation.
Support from you, our allies and partners, is essential to UPI’s ability to ensure freedom from violence and transform justice! As the C.R.I.S.E.S. Act progresses, the Urban Peace Institute will provide updates on victories, challenges and ongoing ways to support.
