Peace Ambassador Trainings in Los Angeles
Most recently, the Urban Peace Institute trained a new cohort of peace ambassadors to stop violence and create peace on the streets of Los Angeles. These new peace ambassadors will be strategically deployed to quell tensions and reduce gun violence in identified crime hotspots. Mayor Eric Garcetti and Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson attended our trainings to show support and welcome these new peacemakers to the community.
We also hosted a Women in the Work panel uplifting the voices of our female violence intervention leaders. In sharing their personal journeys, they described how they built a “license to operate” in their respective communities, and gained respect from community members who are men. They also shared the importance of uplifting women in this work and encouraging them to become ambassadors and intervention workers. This candid discussion spurred male participants to reflect on what it looks like to uplift the women in their circles, and protect them.
