Visalia Unified School District Visits UPI

Urban Peace Institute was pleased to host a team of school-based intervention workers from Visalia Unified School District (VUSD). The training was filled with fruitful discussions centered around best practices for supporting youth and ending violence in schools.

The day started with a session led by Ben Owens of Advocates 4 Peace and Urban Unity/Detours Mentoring Group and Javier Martinez of Arise & Go. To close the day, the VUSD team had a site visit at George Washington Carver Park with the Southern California Crossroads school-based intervention team. Both teams noted the similarities in the challenges they faced and shared strategies on developing relationships with young people. Urban Peace Institute is grateful for all who are committed to safer schools for youth across California!
