Watts is Walking

The Watts Walking Club has started again! Every Friday, community leaders, law enforcement officers, and intervention workers join together in neighborhood walks for community safety. With an increase in vehicle violence, traffic collisions, and speeding, members of the Watts Walking Club raise awareness of the dangers students face on their journey to school. Through our Regional School Safety Collaborative meetings, residents then brainstorm solutions for safer streets.

The community walks are an essential space for folks to get information, resources, and neighborhood updates for community members to share. The Watts Rising Collaborative has been a key player in implementing community safety strategies through advocacy and investment in community, trees, and sustainability. UPI believes it is essential for students to be able to walk to school without fear of violence, and we thank our partners for their commitment.
