LA Violence Intervention Coalition Meets with Deputy Mayor of Community Safety

Urban Peace Institute and the Los Angeles Violence Intervention Coalition gathered at City Hall to meet with Deputy Mayor of Community Safety, Karren Lane. Peacemakers laid out the LA Peace Plan and voiced the need for significant and sustained funding to ensure that Los Angeles continues to grow its peace efforts. The plan calls on the City to provide peacemakers with a living wage of $60,000 as a minimum starting salary.

For decades, community violence intervention workers have implemented violence reduction efforts in Los Angeles’ most marginalized and violence-impacted communities. Though many intervention workers put their lives at risk for community safety, they are often underpaid and the field of intervention continues to be grossly understaffed. We are grateful to Deputy Mayor Karren Lane for meeting with the Coalition and advocating for community violence intervention.
